Berne Hotels and Accommodation

(Berne, Switzerland)

Picture of Berne city centreAs the capital of Switzerland, hotels in Berne can be both pricey and hard to come by, particularly on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays. Although is it always desirable to book your accommodation ahead of your arrival, the Berne Tourist Office and the railway station is always on hand should you require last-minute lodging and they can usually rustle something up. Do also bear in mind that most hotels in Berne tend to lower their prices at the weekends.

Those on a tight budget will find that the most popular accommodation comes in the form of hostels. A good alternative to expensive hotels, the best of these hostels are to be found on the Rathausgasse - in the heart of Old Town Berne, close to the Kramgasse and the River Aare, and also close by and to the south-west, on the Weihergasse and off the Aarstrasse.

Where to Stay

One of the most affordable hotels in Berne is the Marthahaus Garni, which lies close to the University Botanical Gardens (Botanischer Garten der Universität), on the Wyttenbachstrasse. Those looking to step-up from budget accommodation will find a good choice of mid-range hotels scattered around Berne, including a number of notable options along roads such as the Belpstrasse, the Gerechtigkeitsgasse, the Zieglerstrasse and also the Zeughausgasse, where both the Kreuz and the Continental hotels reside.

For luxury accommodation in Berne, do check out the stylish hotels around the Bahnhofplatz, and those along the Gerechtigkeitsgasse and the Kochergasse. The Bellevue Palace is one such hotel and can be found on the Kochergasse, being known as much for its fine dining as its sumptuous lodging and good facilities.
